School-based Immunization Program
Public health nurses will be visiting each school once during the school year to offer the vaccines listed below to Grade 7 students, and to provide additional doses to Grade 8 students who have not completed their vaccine series.
Eligible students who have a consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian will be offered , and vaccines.
If your child has already received these vaccines from their primary healthcare provider, please review and update yourÂ
Students can receive missed or additional doses of vaccines through their primary care provider, at a public health community immunization clinic, or at a school clinic when the student is in Grade 8.
Halton Region Public Health holds community immunization clinics during the summer and at various times throughout the school year to help students catch up on missed or additional doses of routine vaccines. For information on school and community clinics, visit the on .​
According to Ontario’s Immunization Schedule, all children attending school between ages 4 to 17 need to be immunized. Immunization protects children from many serious diseases and helps to keep our schools disease-free. Children who are not fully immunized may not be allowed to attend school.

A parent or guardian may choose to either temporarily or permanently exempt a child from receiving vaccinations. An exemption may be obtained if there are medical reasons why the child should not be vaccinated or if the family chooses not to vaccinate the child based on conscience or religious belief. A vaccine exemption allows an unimmunized child to attend daycare or school as long as there are no outbreaks in the facility. To learn more about the vaccination exemption process, please visit: .
What Parents Can Do
Check with your health care provider to ensure your child has the required vaccinations needed to attend school.
