COVID-19 vaccine dose recommendations

Halton Region Public Health recommends all parents and guardians get their child vaccinated against COVID-19. 

Primary series:

Everyone six months of age and older is recommended to complete their . For most children, this requires two doses of an mRNA vaccine eight weeks apart. Children who are  are recommended to get a third dose to complete their primary series.

Booster doses:

Booster doses are recommended to everyone five years of age and older to help restore protection that may have decreased since your last dose. Booster doses are recommended six months after completing the last dose of COVID-19 vaccine or having a COVID-19 infection.

  • Children five to 11 years of age can get a monovalent COVID-19 booster dose.
  • Youth 12 years of age and older can get a bivalent COVID-19 booster dose

Vaccination continues to be recommended for children who had a previous COVID-19 infection. Children will have some natural immunity from infection, but their protection is strengthened with vaccination. 

Children five years of age and older can get the vaccine at the same time as other vaccines, such as the flu shot.
