The HCDSB is very fortunate to have one of the newest collections of building assets in the Province, including modern ventilation systems in all schools. The heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems are designed according to industry standards and aid in creating a comfortable learning environment for students and staff.
All HCDSB schools are equipped with:
- Heating and cooling in all classrooms
- Mechanical ventilation in all classrooms
- Increased fresh air intake through mechanical ventilation
- Air filtration in all schools, including MERV-13 filters
- Filter changes completed at regular intervals
- High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters in all kindergarten classrooms
- All HVAC systems are centrally monitored to ensure effective operation
- Systems are re-commissioned and balanced to optimize ventilation
- Preventative maintenance performed at regular intervals
Further, the HCDSB continues to make considerable investments in ventilation equipment, including:
- $1.74M in ventilation projects completed in the 2024-25 school year
- $2.44M in ventilation projects planned for the 2025-26 school year
