Students at St. Anne Catholic Elementary School

The HCDSB is very fortunate to have one of the newest collections of building assets in the Province, including modern ventilation systems in all schools. The heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems are designed according to industry standards and aid in creating a comfortable learning environment for students and staff.

All HCDSB schools are equipped with:

  • Heating and cooling in all classrooms
  • Mechanical ventilation in all classrooms
    • Increased fresh air intake through mechanical ventilation
  • Air filtration in all schools, including MERV-13 filters
  • Filter changes completed at regular intervals
  • High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters in all kindergarten classrooms
  • All HVAC systems are centrally monitored to ensure effective operation
    • Systems are re-commissioned and balanced to optimize ventilation
    • Preventative maintenance performed at regular intervals

Further, the HCDSB continues to make considerable investments in ventilation equipment, including:

  • $1.74M in ventilation projects completed in the 2024-25 school year
  • $2.44M in ventilation projects planned for the 2025-26 school year
