HCDSB offers an optional Extended French Program beginning in Grade 5 at select school sites across our district.
About the Program
Extended French is an optional program with limited enrolment. The goal of the Extended French Program is to develop functional proficiency in students through the delivery of a significant portion of the curriculum in French.
Students must be entering Grade 5 in their September start date, in order to be eligible to participate in the Extended French Program.
The online application portal for Grade 5 Extended French (offered during the 2026-2027 school year) opened on November 25 until December 9, 2025. The application portal is now closed.
Important Notes About the Application Form:
Parents/guardians are required to create an account if this is their first time completing the PowerSchool Enrolment form. Once signed in with an email address and password, you can save your form and come back at a later time.
- If you already have an account on PowerSchool, you can sign in and complete the form (parents/guardians must use the same account to complete forms for multiple children).
- When you are finished entering your information and have completed the form, select: Submit. This will send all of the information you have entered to your school. If you cannot select this button, please ensure that you have answered all required questions.
- If you have more than one (1) child, it is recommended that you submit an application for each child. You can also 鈥渟nap over鈥 shared family information, which will save time.
About the Random Selection Process
Student enrolment in the Extended French program is determined through a random selection (lottery) process.
Parents will be notified if their child was selected through the random selection (lottery) process for a spot in an Extended French class, or notified if their child is on the waiting list.
Please note that only one (1) registration per child will be accepted and included in the random selection process. All duplicate registrations will be CANCELLED.
Where is Extended French Offered?
The Extended French Program is offered regionally, and sites will change from time to time to address student enrolment and other considerations.
