I am excited to share our plans for National AccessAbility Week, which takes place from May 26 to June 1, 2024.

National AccessAbility Week is a special time for us to celebrate the valuable contributions of Canadians with disabilities. It is also an opportunity to recognize the efforts of individuals, communities, and workplaces that are dedicated to removing barriers to accessibility and promoting inclusion.

In particular, I would like to highlight Red Shirt DayDzWednesday, May 29th. This day of action is a time for our HCDSB community to show our support for persons and families living with disabilities, to celebrate the achievements of people living with disabilities, and to pledge our commitment to creating a fully accessible and inclusive society. We encourage all members of the HCDSB community to wear red shirts on this day to stand in solidarity with individuals with disabilities.

I will also take this opportunity to share a video that has been prepared as a public service announcement to raise awareness about the use of accessible parking spaces at our schools and office locations:

At HCDSB, we are committed to ensuring that our schools and workplaces are safe and welcoming for all. National AccessAbility Week and Red Shirt Day are wonderful opportunities for us to reinforce this commitment as we celebrate our diverse and inclusive community.

As the Chair of SEAC, and the Trustee who brought forth a motion to recognize National AccessAbility Week and Red Shirt Day across all HCDSB schools, this week holds special significance for me. We hope HCDSB families will join us from May 26 to June 1 as we celebrate individuals with disabilities and those who work tirelessly to remove barriers to accessibility and inclusion. Please visit the HCDSB website for more information.

Thank you for your continued support.
