We have become aware of information that is circulating on social media and through email, raising concerns with a book that was distributed to students in Grade 7 at one of our HCDSB schools.
The book was handed out to students in November 2023, following a presentation on the Holocaust. The concerns raised relate to the content of the book and its alignment with certain political or ideological perspectives.聽We take these concerns seriously and the potential impact on our students and their understanding of complex issues such as the war in the Middle East.聽
We are following up on this matter and more broadly reviewing the processes in place to ensure that any distribution of materials to students are consistent with our policies and procedures.
We apologize for any harm caused by the dissemination of the book in question. We are committed to ensuring that our classrooms and schools remain inclusive, equitable and conducive to critical thinking.聽聽
