Our hearts are heavy as we read reports in the media about the escalating conflict in the Middle East. As a Catholic school community, we are called to accompany our brothers and sisters, most especially during times of crisis. Praying can be a source of comfort, and a very meaningful way to offer support.
Resources and Supports
News of war and violence around the world can shake our sense of security, heightening feelings of fear, helplessness and vulnerability. This is especially true for children and youth.
Student Mental Health Ontario (SMHO) has provided a resource for supporting students in response to world events: Ways to Support Students in Response to World Events
SMHO also offers several resources to support families and staff:
Additional resources to support mental health are posted on the HCDSB website at: /students/mental-health-well-being/resources/.
Amid a world frequently plagued by pain and suffering, we are called to find solace in the fact that our Catholic schools provide a beacon of hope during times of unrest. Our schools are firmly rooted in the belief of God’s boundless love for all of us and the assurance of eternal life, realized through the sacrifice and Resurrection of Christ.
Let us pray for the students, families and staff in our community who are directly and indirectly impacted by the tragic events unfolding in the Middle East, as we hold close in our hearts all who have been devastated by war and violence in other parts of the world.
