A Special Air Quality Statement is in effect for Halton Region due to wildfire smoke. As per Procedure VI-39 Inclement Weather Safety schools continue to monitor air quality levels throughout the day and will make local decisions to adjust activities as necessary.

We continue to monitor the levels of air pollution that have developed due to smoke from forest fires in Quebec and Northern Ontario, and the poor air quality is expected to persist into the weekend.
In light of the worsening air quality conditions, we are implementing the following measures:
- HCDSB’s participation in The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics event scheduled for Thursday June 8th at Milton Community Park has been cancelled.
- The North Halton Municipal Track & Field Meet scheduled in Milton for Thursday, June 8th has been POSTPONED to Monday, June 12, 2023. Location to be confirmed.
- The System Track and Field Finals, originally planned for Monday, June 12th will now take place on Tuesday, June 13th at Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary School.
- The Special Olympics event that was originally for Monday, June 12th, will now take place on Tuesday June 13th at Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary School.
- All HCDSB elementary schools will hold indoor recess for Thursday, June 8th and Friday, June 9th, or until conditions improve.
- All interschool athletic events have been POSTPONED until conditions improve.

We recognize this will be disappointing news for those who were looking forward to taking part in the various events noted above. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority as we continue to monitor the air quality conditions.
