In June, HCDSB secondary students participated in the inaugural HCDSB-wide Model United Nations (UN) conference, XMUN I, at !
The conference brought students together in a hybrid format to participate in a Model UN-style debate. Based on the Marvel Universe superhero theme, students were invited to represent different nations and characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and join in a lively debate on the fictional Registration Act, The Sokovia Accords.
Model UN provides the unique opportunity for students to develop public speaking, leadership, diplomatic, and research skills in a fast-paced environment while gaining insight into international relations and pertinent global issues.
Simulating the United Nations’ procedures, the conference gave delegates valuable insight into how one of the most influential intergovernmental organizations functions and the diplomatic process behind international cooperation.
The conference was a huge success and encouraged student participants to engage in insightful debates and problem-solving. After concluding the debates, student delegates were presented with a ‘crisis’, which they resolved in under fifteen minutes!
Congratulations to all participants of XMUN! Special thanks also goes out to student Secretary Generals, Ian Castelino and Aisha Mir, and our Best Delegate from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School, Anh Bui.
