Congratulations to Kristen Pereira from , Francesca Warren from and Mikaela Pereira from for becoming finalists in this year’s COSTI Refugee & Human Rights Child & Youth Poetry Contest!
invited students in Grades 4 to 12 across Ontario to write a poem in line with the theme “Refugees and Human Rights”. The objective of COSTI’s poetry contest is to bring greater attention to human rights and the plight of refugees.
About the Poems
Kristen’s poem, , addresses questions about refugees in times of struggle as they flee their homes. The Curious Questions of a Child won second prize in the Grades 4-6 division!
Francesca’s poem, , is about living through war and transitioning to peace. Francesca’s poem won third prize in the Grades 7-8 division!
Mikaela’s poem, , is about the strong, successful and courageous refugees that have shaped our world today. Imagine won first prize in the Grades 9-12 division!
Kristen, Francesca and Mikaela were recognized on Monday, June 20, 2022 at a virtual ceremony in honour of World Refugee Day.
