invited students in Grades 4 to 12 across Ontario to write a poem in line with the theme 鈥淩efugees and Human Rights鈥�. The objective of COSTI鈥檚 poetry contest is to bring greater attention to human rights and the plight of refugees.
About the Poems
Kristen鈥檚 poem, , addresses questions about refugees in times of struggle as they flee their homes. The Curious Questions of a Child won second prize in the Grades 4-6 division!
Francesca鈥檚 poem, , is about living through war and transitioning to peace. Francesca鈥檚 poem won third prize in the Grades 7-8 division!
Mikaela鈥檚 poem, , is about the strong, successful and courageous refugees that have shaped our world today. Imagine won first prize in the Grades 9-12 division!
Kristen, Francesca and Mikaela were recognized on Monday, June 20, 2022 at a virtual ceremony in honour of World Refugee Day.
