The month of June is designated as Pride Month in Canada, and in keeping with the Board motion passed on January 18, 2022, throughout the month of June, our Catholic Education Centre and each of our HCDSB schools will fly the Pride flag as a symbol of our commitment to nurturing safe, welcoming and inclusive communities.

It is most fitting that June is also the month devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which for Catholics is a sign and symbol of God’s boundless and passionate love for all humanity. Drawing on the example of Christ, who preached a message of love and inclusion throughout His ministry, our Catholic schools are called to ensure we are nurturing safe and inclusive learning environments, where every student and every member of the community is welcomed, valued, and respected.  As Catholics, we believe that we are all made in the image and likeness of God, who created us and loves us unconditionally 鈥 just as we are. We are called to know, love and celebrate one another, just as God knows, loves and celebrates each one of us because we are 鈥渨onderfully made.鈥 We honour the inherent dignity in each other by treating one another with sensitivity, compassion and respect.

Throughout the month of June, our HCDSB schools will be raising awareness around Pride Month and will journey alongside the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in creating spaces of welcome in a search of dignity and justice for all. We ask for God鈥檚 grace as we continue to proclaim the Good News in our schools and across our community.

Upcoming System Recognition Days

Wednesday, June 1st

We will launch Pride Month with HCDSB Rainbow Day 鈥&苍产蝉辫;a day to love one another and celebrate our differences, just as God loves and celebrates each one of us because we are all 鈥渨onderfully made.鈥  The Pride Flag will be raised at each school and the Catholic Education Centre.

Tuesday, June 14th

We will hold a system-wide Pride Awareness Day 鈥 a day to reaffirm our commitment to honour the dignity and worth of each member of our community by nurturing safe, welcoming and inclusive schools where all students can feel a true sense of belonging.

In addition to the system-wide events, schools are encouraged to work with their Catholic School Councils to plan local activities to raise awareness around Pride Month in their school community.

In our Catholic schools, we welcome and value all students, families and staff, and celebrate diversity within our communities.  This June, let us renew our promise to Christ to by nurturing safe and inclusive learning environments that are expressions of God鈥檚 love and mercy in this world.
