On Monday, May 16, 2022, students, staff, trustees, honourable guests and members of the HCDSB community gathered for the official Blessing and Dedication Ceremony of St. Nicholas Catholic Elementary School in Oakville!

A blessing of the water rite, as well as a blessing of the school site and classroom crosses was officiated by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, Bishop of Hamilton; assisted by Father Joseph from St. James’ Parish and Father Ranjan from St. Dominic’s Parish.

As part of the ceremony, greetings were shared by Gary Carr, Region of Halton Chair; Rob Burton, Mayor of Oakville; Marvin Duarte, Chair of the Board and Milton Trustee; Pat Daly, Director of Education; Tony Agro, Principal of St. Nicholas Catholic Elementary School; and Christine Spotswood, Vice-Principal of St. Nicholas Catholic Elementary School.

Highlights of the Day

  • Musical performances provided by violinists, Valerie and Sophie Amos; as well as Grade 8 pianist, Olivia Zimmerman.
  • Mrs. Da Silva and Ms. Hines from St. Nicholas School provided musical entertainment.
  • Master of Ceremonies included Pablo Padilla, Grade 8 student and Katie Bowie, Oakville Student Trustee.
  • Special guests of the day included: Father Louis; St. Nicholas Parent Council; HCDSB Trustees; OECTA First-Vice President; Mr. Gokarn from Snyder Architects; Mr. Bandiera from Everstrong Construction Ltd; Principal Cacciola; Principal Varano; St. Thomas Aquinas administrators; members of senior administration; school management staff and former staff.
