, a registered charitable organization dedicated to the prevention and protection of children and youth towards sexual exploitation will be hosting a Virtual Information Session on Thursday, May 26th, 2022 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
About the Speaker ~ Cheryl Perera
Cheryl Perera is an international children’s rights advocate and the founder and president of OneChild, the first global organization dedicated to educating and empowering children and youth against sexual exploitation.
In this 90-minute dynamic and informative presentation, Cheryl will share insights to help HCDSB staff and families understand, identify and spot the warning signs of sexual exploitation, including child sex trafficking.
Online prevention tips and resources will be shared to support the safety and well-being of the children entrusted to our care.
Information Session Details
Below are some topics that will be covered during the information session:
- Children and youth rights;
- Information on sexual exploitation, sex trafficking and online sexual abuse;
- Sex trafficking from a global and local perspective;
- Traffickers vs. victim profiles and mindsets, including groups that are considered high-risk, due to systemic discrimination;
- Harmful cultural attitudes, behaviours and norms, as well as the impact of popular culture;
- Indicators of potential sex trafficking situations;
- What to do if you suspect your child is being trafficked, as well as reporting and seeking assistance;
- How to start the conversation about sex trafficking;
- Online prevention tips;
- The OneChild program in schools;
- Catholic stewardship and service-learning opportunities for children.
For the health and safety of our HCDSB community due to COVID-19, this information session will be offered virtually.

If you are interested in attending, please by Wednesday, May 25th at 3:00 PM.
Those who complete the registration form will receive a direct invite via email to the information session on May 26. The information session will take place on Microsoft Teams.
Individuals who register will also be able to submit questions in advance of the session, through a question form sent to registrants, prior to the presentation.
The most frequently asked questions submitted by parents, staff and guests will be addressed in the session on May 26th.
