November is Indigenous Awareness Month at the 嫩芽视频 (HCDSB). Throughout the month of November and during this school year, students and staff will acknowledge the contributions and legacy of First Nation, M茅tis and Inuit peoples in Canada.
Days of Importance:
- Treaties Recognition Week聽will be celebrated聽November 1-7, 2021. Resources have been provided to elementary schools to educate students about聽the importance of treaties and how they have helped to shape the province of Ontario.鈥
- Inuit Day, November 7, 2021.聽On this day we recognize the cultures, histories, contemporary contexts and rich contributions of Inuit peoples in our community and across the country.聽
- National Indigenous Veterans Day, November 8, 2021.聽 This is a memorial day observed in Canada in recognition of Indigenous contributions to military service, particularly in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War.聽
- Louis Riel Day, November 16, 2021.聽Louis Riel was a great M茅tis leader who helped his people form a government and become part of the newly created Dominion of Canada in 1870.聽鈥
Virtual Family Paint Night with Anishinaabe Artist, Moses Lunham
Join the HCDSB Indigenous Education team for a virtual paint night hosted by Anishinaabe Artist Moses Lunham as we continue on our journey of Treaty understandings.
Get your paint supplies and join the virtual paint night for 2 hours of artistic guidance! No prior artistic experience is necessary to get involved. However, those interested in participating can prepare for the art session by collecting the following art supplies.
