At HCDSB, we are proud to offer an International Student Program that not only enriches the educational experience for our students by fostering a more culturally diverse learning environment but also serves as a revenue stream that helps us support and expand resources across our board. The revenue generated through the International Student Program exceeds the costs associated with staffing, travel, conferences, and other related expenses. This financial support benefits all of our students, allowing us to continue delivering high-quality Catholic education in a way that is both sustainable and beneficial for our community.

Like many school boards in Ontario, HCDSB participates in select international recruitment initiatives. Our international recruitment efforts are part of a long-term strategy to build relationships with families and educational agents abroad. These trips serve as an initial opportunity to engage in discussions and provide information, often planting the seeds for families who may consider our schools in the future. As such, it is challenging to directly link specific enrolments to individual trips, as the decision-making process for families often spans several months or even years after initial contact.

HCDSB is committed to responsible stewardship of our resources, and as per our policy, all international trips are reviewed by our Senior Team and approved by the Board of Trustees to ensure alignment with our mission and strategic goals. We carefully evaluate all expenses to ensure they serve the best interests of our students and communities.

With regard to the matter recently reported in the media, an information report will be presented at the November 19, 2024 Board Meeting. This report will provide an overview and associated costs of the approved recruitment trips that have already taken place this school year.

We are grateful for the trust our community places in us to deliver a quality Catholic education, and we remain dedicated to fulfilling this commitment with transparency and responsibility.
