It is with deep sadness and respect that the ÄÛÑ¿ÊÓƵ (HCDSB) reflects on the passing of the Honourable Murray Sinclair, a distinguished advocate for Indigenous rights, a visionary leader, and a beacon of justice and reconciliation in Canada.

Justice Sinclair’s work as Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) brought to light the painful legacy of the residential school system, and his tireless commitment to educating Canadians has paved a path toward healing and understanding. His leadership has profoundly impacted our nation, and his legacy calls each of us to play an active role in building a more inclusive and equitable society.

At HCDSB, we are committed to supporting the journey of truth and reconciliation through our educational programs, policies, and partnerships. Justice Sinclair’s dedication to truth, compassion, and justice inspires our work in creating an environment that acknowledges and respects the diverse histories and perspectives of all our students, including Indigenous communities.

We extend our deepest condolences to Justice Sinclair’s family, friends, and all who have been touched by his wisdom and courage. We honour his legacy and reaffirm our dedication to fostering truth, reconciliation, and understanding within our Catholic learning community.

May he rest in peace.
