The ÄÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ (HCDSB) invites local associations and community members at large, to apply for volunteer positions to its Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)!
About SEAC
In accordance with , each school board in Ontario must establish a Special Education Advisory Committee with a mandate to provide advice and make recommendations to the Board on anything that impacts the establishment, development, and delivery of:
- Special Education programs and services for students with exceptional needs;
- Special Education Plan or reports;
- The Special Education budget and financial statements; and
- Any matter that promotes the interests and well-being of students with exceptional needs and abilities.
A new SEAC is formed every four years, after the election of the Board of Trustees. The school board appoints SEAC members, and they serve for the term of office of board members and until a new board is organized.
What are the Responsibilities of SEAC Members?
The Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) members are required to attend 10 meetings each school year, from September through June. The Committee typically meets on the last Monday of each month. Members are required to:
- Read meeting materials and the agenda provided in advance of the meeting;
- Become familiar with the school board’s special education programs and services;
- Share information about SEAC activities with members of the local association and/or the provincial association;
- Provide feedback or information from the local association and/or the provincial association relevant to special education.
Who Is Eligible to Become a Member?
Each member of SEAC must be:
- A Canadian citizen, 18 years of age or older;
- A resident within Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton, or Oakville;
- A registered Catholic school supporter (an elector who directs their taxes to the HCDSB).
